Chapter 60 I Don’t Plan On Loving Him Anymore
That icy, penetrating gaze sent shivers down Ranita’s spine, making her heart feel as though it had plunged into the depths of an icy cave. It took her a moment to snap out of it when the phone was handed to her.
“Come on, Ranita, you can’t let him get to you like this,” she thought to herself, berating her own weakness. “I’m stronger than this.”
Her focus returned to the message on the phone screen, a message from Dylan. “You live with Dylan?” he asked.
“I’ve made some soup for you; when are you coming home?” The message was accompanied by a carefully taken picture.
A lump formed in Ranita’s throat, and her breath caught in her chest. She couldn’t tell if it was because of the pregnancy or the emotional turmoil, but she struggled to control her feelings. A sour taste lingered, and she felt the urge to vomit.
For the first time, Ranita stood up to Brendon. “Is that a problem?” she responded defiantly, her head held high, trying to suppress the turmoil in her heart. “I’m still young, Brendon. I can’t be expected to spend my life as a widow after our divorce.”
“We agreed to part ways amicably,” she added, still trying to justify her actions.
But when Brendon heard these words, his heart ached inexplicably, as if he were immersed in acid, his mind buzzing with chaotic thoughts.
“Dylan has been wonderful to me,” Ranita continued, her eyes welling up with bittersweet tears. “Not only is he an excellent cook, but he also has a great sense of humor that keeps me laughing. He’s by my side, taking care of me. There’s no one else in the world like him.”
“Ranita…” Brendon’s inexplicable pain deepened.This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.
Ranita had a new life now, filled with shared meals, walks, and even a shared bed with Dylan, resulting in a number of adorable children. In an instant, Brendon’s heartstrings snapped.
He had never anticipated that someone would enter Ranita’s life so rapidly. Despite their divorce, he believed she would remain with the company, continuing to be his exceptional partner.
He had offered her a generous alimony to ensure she lived comfortably. But now, his hidden and irrational emotions had been laid bare, turning into a powerful surge of jealousy that threatened to overwhelm him.
“Ranita! You and Dylan…” Brendon impulsively seized Ranita’s wrist, trapping her between his arms. “Have you been intimate with him?”
Brendon felt like he was losing his mind. Another man had left his mark on Ranita’s body! The lips that had once been his were now kissed by someone else.
This feeling consumed Brendon with an uncontrollable fury.
Despite the pain of being yanked so harshly by Brendon, Ranita maintained her unwavering gaze. An unexpected glimmer of hope rose within her because the source of his anger was her words.
“Mr. Stuart,” she said with unwavering composure as she looked directly into his eyes. “What right do you have to ask such personal questions? Professionally, I have no obligation to share my personal life with my boss. Personally, our relationship doesn’t warrant such inquiries.”
Her heart swirled within like a tempest-tossed sea. All she had ever wanted was for Brendon to notice her, to show some affection and care. She had waited for three long years, but her desires had gone unanswered.
Now, it seemed like she had found it, but it was too late. Her love for Brendon had faded away.
Brendon’s phone interrupted the tension with a ringing tone.
Ranita saw the bold letters on the screen: Shannon. She smiled to herself, her heart turning cold. “Mr. Stuart, it’s Miss Murphy calling. Will you be answering?”
And, as usual, his choice was always Shannon.
