Chapter 19 Messing With Her on Purpose
On the other hand, Norman’s eyes were fixed on Diane from the moment he saw her. He eyed her from
her long, flowing hair to her face, taking in her snowy skin on her neck and her shoulders. Then, his
eyes shifted to her elegant, curvy figure before they trailed all the way down to her ankles which were
slightly visible under her sweeping dress.
How long had it been since he last saw her body? Since when had she become so… enticing?
Stella caught the dreamy look on her husband’s face and a hint of resentment flickered past her eyes
momentarily. She tightened her hold around his arm and said, “Diane’s climbing the social ranks now,
Norman. She’s found someone a thousand times better than you, the planning director of NG.”
Norman was snapped out of his reverie by Stella’s words. He frowned and said, “A thousand times
better? Who are you fooling around with this time?”
“Who says I’m fooling around with anyone?” Diane argued while she tried to hold in her hatred and
anger for this moldy bun in front of her. She then added, “Even if I am fooling around, I don’t think it’s
any of your business anymore, Mr. Wayne. After all, you’re my ex-husband.”
“You…”
Norman felt a stab in his heart when he heard how Diane addressed him, for he still couldn’t get used
to the feeling of being insulted by Diane.
She had become such an unlikeable person from the complying and gentle woman that he once knew,
so much that she’d even learned how to pierce him with her words.
He was oddly vexed by the thought of it. As he straightened his tie impatiently, he warned her, “I’m just
worried that you’re too hungry—you might get swindled from putting anything in your mouth. Good men
are hard to find these days.”
Then, he straightened up confidently at the thought of his glorious position as planning director. Finally,
the stuffy feeling in his chest dissipated a little.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Wayne.”
Diane put on a small smirk. “Since it’s my second marriage, I’ll be sure to open my eyes and steer clear
of assh*les.”
“Diane!”
Norman’s expression turned cold instantly, and the veins popped on his forehead.
“Goodbye, Mr. Wayne. Be careful too, Miss Mayfair—don’t hurt your back.”
Diane left quickly, not wanting to continue their bickering. However, she felt a little conflicted inside
when she took a look at the hotel. Original from NôvelDrama.Org.
NG Enterprise had booked the entire rooftop venue for the night. As Diane stepped inside, the banquet
hall was already packed with attendees. The men were in suits and leather shoes with expensive
watches on their wrists, whereas the women wore beautiful dresses which swayed elegantly as they
moved. Everyone was having a great time in the lively atmosphere.
Norman and Stella arrived at the venue soon after; their linked arms invited welcoming cheers from the
attendees.
Since Norman had just been promoted, many people went up to them in an instant. The couple’s
relationship was praised by their fellow colleagues as a perfect match; some people expressed their
surprise at their secret marriage before congratulating them and wishing them a bright future together
in NG as the ‘power couple’ of the company.
“See? I told you I was right.”
As Diane watched them from afar, a voice could be heard coming from nearby. “Mr. Wayne and Miss
Mayfair are really married. There can’t be smoke without fire—that Diane must be a homewrecker.”
“You’re right. If I were her, I wouldn’t even have the guts to attend tonight’s banquet. She’s so
shameless.”
Me? A homewrecker? Just then, a sense of irony rushed up her chest. She stayed quietly by the corner
without turning toward the two people who were exchanging gossip.
Meanwhile, time passed by steadily as senior executives started showing up one by one. At last, the
banquet officially commenced when the CEO arrived.
“Diane.”
The CEO was giving a speech onstage when Stella squeezed through the crowd with her minion, Kate,
following close behind. She approached Diane with a smile.
“Good news, Diane. I just told them that you’ll be the star of the opening dance this year. You’ve won
the lottery!”
The opening dance? Diane’s heart sank immediately.
Stella knew that Diane couldn’t dance. Besides, she had to have a dance partner for something like
this; with her name spreading around the company as the notorious homewrecker, would anyone even
want to dance with her?
This woman is messing with me on purpose!
Just then, the lights dimmed all of a sudden. The CEO had already concluded his speech onstage, and
the host announced that it was time for the opening dance.
The segment was to be carried out randomly—the person hit by the spotlight would have to give the
first dance. It was an exciting yet thrilling design.
Diane stood on the spot as she watched the ray of light moving around smoothly in the crowd as it
picked its lucky dancer. To her surprise, the spotlight actually came to a stop right above her head.
She instinctively closed her eyes as the bright light pierced her eyes. When she opened them again,
she was surrounded by a huge round of ear-splitting applause—right now, all eyes were on her.
“Go on! Why are you still standing there?”
Stella gave her a hard push from the shadows, and Diane leaped forward…
