A Love Restored 61

Chapter 61

The morning light filtered through the curtains as I carefully balanced a tray with a steaming pot of coffee and a mugs. Today, like every other day, I found myself standing outside Felix’s bedroom door, ready to start the day. The familar routine had become second nature to me. I loved this part of the day, when I sometimes got to wake him up with coffee, or with breakfast,

I knocked lightly, the sound barely audible, and then entered the room, Felix was still in bed, wrapped up in the warmth of his luxurious sheets. I approached the bedside table, setting down the tray with a soft clink. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the room. I wanted a cup now, as well. A latte would be so good right now.

said softly.

“Mr. Corsino,” I said

He stirred, his eyes fluttering open without a word. The silence between us was comfortable, and I felt so glad, so grateful, that the anger and awkward tension between us had dissipated a little

“Got your coffee.” I told him.

I poured the dark liquid into the mug, the sound of the coffee filling the room as he slowly sat up.

Felix accepted the cup with a nod of gratitude, and I busied myself tidying up around the room while he smelled the strong brew. He kept on the table, and silently, he got up, heading to the bathroom to brush his teeth, and I took the opportunity to straighten the books on his bedside table.© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.

He was reading The Brothers Karamazov. He was seven chapters in. It was nice that he had picked up reading. I had read this book in school, even though it was him it was prescribed to,

As he returned, I couldn’t help but notice the shadows beneath his eyes, the telltale sign of a restless night. I didn’t say anything.

He sat down on the bed and took the mug in his hands, slowly sipping the coffee.

“What would you like for breakfast?” I asked.

“Whatever is fine.” He answered.

“Scrambled eggs and toast sound good?”

Felix agreed. “I’ll eat in my office,” he told me. I nodded and left the room to prepare his breakfast, the familiar routine continuing.

After a while, I returned to his room with a plate of eggs and toast.

Placing it on the table in front of him, I began to retreat. He stopped me. “Flora.” I looked at him. “You alright?” His voice was thick, “You don’t look too good.”

I was really, really hungover, actually. But I couldn’t tell him that. Especially when the person. I had been drinking with had been Liam.

Just a headache. It’ll pass.”

He studied me for a moment, but he didn’t press further.

After ensuring Felix had everything he needed, I excused myself to attend to other household tasks. As I went about my duties, I couldn’t shake the persistent ache in my temples. The day seemed to drag on, each passing moment a reminder of the throbbing pain behind my eyes.

When I returned to the kitchen later, I found a small bottle of pain medicine on the counter.

Later in the day, I seized the opportunity to take a short break and stepped outside. The weather was pleasant, the sun casting a warm glow over the surroundings. I decided to take a walk, hoping the fresh air would do wonders for both my headache and my mond. A stroll in the sun and a cup of hot coffee would do me good. I made myself some coffee and went about the gardens.

It was such a pleasant day. The last few days had been. Slowly, but surely, I could feel Felix and my relationship getting better. At least, his hatred and resentment toward me was dissolving And how could I be sad, when I knew that I could look at Felix and not be met with wrath? When he said my

name so sweetly.

As I strolled through the estate, the vibrant colors of flowers and the gentle rustling of leaves provided a welcome distraction. Lost in my thoughts, I rounded a corner and unexpectedly came across Liam engaged in conversation with Linda.

I was in no mood or condition to see Liam. Especially after what had happened last night, I just couldn’t face him. That drunken almost kiss. And we were flirting. God. Why had I even gone to his place?

I mean, I’d have to see him and speak to him again, some time. But I definitely didn’t want it to be today.

My heart skipped a beat, and I instinctively stepped behind a nearby shrub, not wanting to be noticed.

Liam spoke with enthusiasm, and his mother, Linda, listened attentively. Their words were muffled, but I strained to catch snippets of their conversation. I mean, if I was standing here hiding, how bad could it be to eavesdrop a little?

“Last night was great, Mom. I was with Flora, Liams said. ““She came to my house. Why was he telling her? Ugh. Now I couldn’t face Linda, either.

“How did it go?” She asked simply,

“Well. We’re getting close.”

It was a bit strange for him to be discussing this with his mother. But who was I to comment on their relationship? But there was a weird feeling in my chest I couldn’t shake off.

Liam said something in a low whisper that I didn’t catch.

What Linda said was louder, “How’s the progress on the flower garden?”

The flower garden?

My curiosity piqued, I strained to hear more. Liam responded, “It’s going well, Mom. We’re making good strides.”

Their vague discussion left me feeling suspicious. What flower garden were they referring to, and why did it seem so secretive? As they continued their conversation, I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to Liam than met the eye And maybe, there was more to Linda.

“We have to hurry, sweetie.” She r told b him. “It all has to happen according to plan. We’ve come so far,”

“Don’t worry for a second, mom.

There was a pause. “I think you’re getting distracted. By that girl. Remember what you’re here for. Liam. Remember what they did to us.”

A shiver ran down my spine. All my hair were standing on end. What was happening? What were they talking about? I couldn’t make much sense of it, but the only thing I knew was that I had a really terrible feeling.

Once they were out of sight, I emerged from my hiding spot, the warm sun no longer providing the comfort it did just moments ago.

Whatever this was, I had to tell Felix.
