A Kiss With The Alpha King

CHAPTER 15 BIG BAG OF SECRETS

VENUS

The sound of the gunshot was less noisy than the commotion within me. It did not allow me to notice that I was the only one who had not moved an inch. Everyone else had run into the field, kicking up dust in their determination to find a piece. I snapped out of my thoughts and I joined the search. I could see April pulling stumps out of her way, displaying her strength. She was not someone I could beat in a fist fight.

“I found one!” someone exclaimed from somewhere and dashed towards Prefect Naomi to submit her piece. It was placed on a tray and I did not get to see what it looked like. How funny was it, searching for something you had never seen before? Another person screamed and returned with another piece. With every shout of joy, my hope died and I was ready to give up.

April found the sixth one, a big smile on her excited face. She stuck her tongue at her cold older sister, Edna, who was yet to find anything. As she passed by me, she flashed the piece at me, winking secretly. It was purple with two stripes of orange and I stopped to think. I had seen that somewhere before but where? Another piece was found, with just three. Jess pulled out the eighth one from a heap of sand, howling with victory. My palms were damp and I racked through my memory, trying to remember where I had seen a symbol with colours like that.

Then it dawned on me: it had been on a suitcase in the suite of the man I had kissed. While I had been looking for a place to drop the glass of wine, I had seen it but had not paid much attention to it. Now only two pieces were left and many of us had not not found any piece. I got back into the game, pulling detached branches out of my way. A young boy found the ninth one, waving it as he ran. It was orange with blue stripes. Edna frowned at me, frustrated that her little sister had bested her.

The sun was harsh and I mopped sweat off my brows continuously. Searching blindly for the last piece, my foot kicked against a stump and I screamed in pain, grabbing hold of my foot. It caused me to stumble backwards, falling on my a** in a heap. No one was interested in helping me and tears gathered in my eyes. I angrily wiped them away, disgusted at myself. I had to get up or someone would get the last treasure piece.

Lifting myself stubbornly, I applied as little weight as I could on the injured foot, aware that I was bleeding. I dragged the leg along, wincing whenever the pain became unbearable. Something was stuck in my old sandals, slicing into the wound and pulling it out meant more bleeding. Finally, one last scream was heard and my shoulders fell, choking on the tears I refused to shed. The ten pieces had been found and because I had not found any, it was the end of the journey for me.

“Gather together,” Naomi ordered and I wobbled to where she sat, not really interested in what she had to say. I had sustained an Injury yet I would go home without a job. Once we had gathered around her, a maid brought the tray to her and she examined the contents with a sweep of her lashes. Suddenly, she frowned, picking out a broken piece. It was the orange piece with blue stripes and I remembered seeing that piece.

“Who dropped this in here? Who found this?” she asked, looking from face to face.

The boy who had found it came forward reluctantly, curious eyes staring at him. “It was me, prefect. Is something wrong with it?”

“There is everything wrong with between her

it,” Naomi countered, frowning at him. The chip was two first fingers.

“It is not part of the ten pieces. This is an ordinary soldiers’ badge. There is one more piece remaining.”

Sighs filled in the air and the remaining contenders rushed back to the field. I could not move an inch and closing my eyes tight, I pulled on the glass chunk stuck in my foot only that it wasn’t glass. It was a wooden chip, small and covered with my blood. It was purple with a single band of orange and a wee laugh escaped my lips. I had found the last piece or more truthfully, it had found me.

I raised the b**dy chip above my head at Naomi, a shaky grin on my lips. “I found it!”

After a minute of dabbing and murmuring, he let go of my leg and sat back on his bent knee. Confusion drew his brows together and he quickly scribbled something into a small book.

“I just don’t understand. You are a werewolf and although you lost a good amount of blood, you are supposed to be healing by now. Why is the wound still fresh and not stitching together already? Have

“You are hiding something and it will not do you any good. I can’t help you unless I know what the problem is.”

Slowly, I put my foot down literally, pushing the pain to the back of my mind. There was no way I could trust anyone. Dan and his sister already knew too much.Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

I limped away to my freedom, feeling his eyes still on my back like a dead target. There was no use dwelling on the injury. It had been for a good cause and I had a job along with a big
