Chapter 30
” Shane? ” Mrs Kent called again, breaking Shane out of his trance. He had went mute for some seconds. ” You like her right? ” Mrs Kent asked again.
Shane released a sigh. ” Mom, it seems you’re taking this the wrong way. I shouldn’t have told you anyways. I and Brielle will be fine, like seriously. You don’t have to worry about us ” Shane assured.
Mrs Kent let out a sigh. ” I’m not worried about her, I’m worried about you!. It’s obviously she doesn’t love you but you just don’t seem to care. ” Mrs Kent said sadly.
” Mom, you should leave now and go take a rest, it’s late in the night ” Shane said, trying to change the topic. Mrs Kent understood his plight but played along anyways. ” Alright then. Bye baby ” Sha bade and Shane let out a forced smile. ” Bye ” He muttered and hanged up.
He sighed shortly. He knows too well his mom wouldn’t stop thinking about it and he’s regretting now that he had told her. He shouldn’t have.
It’s not really his fault anyways. He’s been trying his best to cover up for Brielle but she’s been making it more harder for him to do so. No calls or even texts from her, but he can see clearly especially from the interview video of her he had watched, she seems totally fine and not bothered about the situation of things.
That alone is making him more sad. He hadn’t placed a call across to her ever since the wedding ended. He had been doing that before the wedding, even when Layla was with him, but his wife wouldn’t pick his calls. And he’s damn sure she clearly saw them. She probably purposely ignored his calls.
He should try her number once again, right? He would do that anyways, either way she’s his wife and he has no choice now since they’re married already.
He dialed her number and it rang continuously but no response. He tried her number again but no positive response. This went on for minutes before Shane got tired and dropped his phone with a sigh. He’s in this already and it seems there’s no way out for him anymore. He would have to live all the rest of his life trying to get Brielle to care for him, or to put their relationship first before any other thing. That’s if it would be possible. Brielle is in love with her business, that’s all she had ever cared for, right from when he was still dating her.
She would constantly decline going out on a date with him and would spend most of her time at work. It was tiring and disturbing, Shane would complain severally but she never heed to any of it.
Shane got up from the same spot he had been seated on for hours. He carried his laptop along and made his way, away from the sitting room and approaching the stairs.
He climbed the stairs leading to his suite. He pushed the door opened and dropping his laptop on one of the couches, he headed straight to his room.
On getting there, he landed on his bed with a sigh. He was really tired and stressed out. He closed his eyes tiredly and drifted to sleep.

Layla sighed for the umpteenth time and picked up her phone again. She had been craving talking to Shane for hours after waking up but she kept deciding against it.
The hadn’t talked for a week now and they met yesterday but instead she acted like she’ve never met him and now.. she’s wants to speak with him. Why?, That’s the first question that’s gon’ come to his head. She thought silently. Mirah was in the kitchen preparing breakfast while she was here, sitted on her bed and staring blankly into space.
She grabbed her phone tightly and began typing some texts. She hit her head lightly after suddenly stopping. She erased the text immediately and dropped her phone. ” Gosh I think I’m going crazy at this rate ” She muttered.
” You know you could just give him a call and then tell him it was a mistake ” Mirah suddenly said, coming in through the door. Layla raised her head to her.Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.
She had actually been at the door and was staring at her best friend who was in thoughts and was pondering on what to do.
” Why would I do that? ” Layla asked, feigning ignorance. Mirah let out a scoff. ” You don’t have to tell lies to me. I’ve been staring at you all through, how you kept deciding against typing him a message or calling him. I would say you do what you want.. ”
” And if you think he might question you, or probably say somethings you aren’t ready to hear, like him suddenly acting cold and asking you why you were calling when the contract has ended. Just tell him, you didn’t mean to call him and it was a mistake. If he also wants to have a conversation with you, he would talk about something else. Trust me ” Mirah advised.
” I should?… ” Layla asked slowly and Mirah gave her a nod. Layla closed her eyes swiftly then opened it again. She picked her phone slowly and dialed Shane’s number. But things didn’t go as she had expected and Shane picked up instead.
She had expected Claus to pick up and inform her that Shane was at a meeting and she would inform him she would call them back. She wasn’t really ready for a conversation, she didn’t know what to say. She was short of words.
She looked up to Mirah for advise but she had left, intending to give them a bit of privacy. ” Is someone there? ” Shane’s husky voice came out as a blare to her ears as she fidgeted a little. ” Layla? ” He called out her name, almost in a whisper. The tone he used sounded so sweet and soft to her ears. ” Layla? ” He called again but got no response.
When she couldn’t take it anymore, she hanged up and heaved a sigh of relief. She was almost fidgeting just hearing his voice alone. It doesn’t look like he had went to work, he might probably be at home.
She suddenly wished she was there with him. She was missing that huge mansion of his and everything and everyone in it. Mirah wouldn’t stop complaining about how much she missed eating ice cream at Shane’s mansion.
She sighed knowing fully well that she might never step into Shane’s home. The contract ended and he belongs to another woman now. He’s a married man. She should try her possible best to stay away from him. His wife wouldn’t like to find out that there’s one little lady chasing after something that is hers. Ladies can be so overprotective of their properties.

” You sure it’s Layla? ” Alec asked Shane who kept glancing at his phone, wondering if Layla would call him again.
Why did she call before?, Is it her or someone else?, What if someone’s toying with her phone?
He waved the thoughts off his head and then facing Alec, he gave him his listening attention. ” So she said yes? ” Shane asked, a bit excited for his friend’s success.
” You don’t know how happy I was ” Alec reported happily and in excitement with big smiles playing on his lips.
” So when’s the wedding? ” Shane teased and Alec chuckle. ” Soon baby… soon ” He also replied in the same teasing manner.
” Your girlfriend is really pretty tho ” Alec said and that got Shane’s attention. he raised his head to Alec with a slightly raised brows.
” Who’s my girlfriend? ” He asked in ignorance
” Ofcourse your substitute or replacement bride, she’s really pretty ” Alec replied, pointing at an image of Layla he was viewing on his phone.
Shane requested for the phone and he gave it to him. A smile played on his lips as he admired his substitute’s beauty. She’s really pretty and blessed indeed, that’s a no doubt.
” So your mom called ” Alec blurted out. Shane sighed and handed the phone over to Alec and then faced somewhere else. ” Come on, you know she’s telling you the real truth with no lies. She’s your mother and she knows what’s best for you, you should listen to her ” Alec advised. Sha raised his head with a sigh. ” She wants me to cancel the contract! ” She said, his voice going a bit higher than before.
” Then you do as told! ” Alec said and Shane let out a scoff. ” Come on, you’re unbelievable. Brielle’s my newly wedded wife. I can’t just cancel the contract and divorce her, that’s wrong ” He opposed.
” I know, but… ” Alec was interrupted by the ring of a phone. It was actually Shane’s… Shane’s expression changed as his eyes read the caller’s identity as her saved name.
