Chapter 1
Point of view of Amelia: .
My heart started to swell with anxiety and fear as I started down the hallway toward my dad’s house. I could not relax until I saw my father once more. The cancer, which I never quite understood to be a brain tumor, caused my father to lose consciousness. The doctor diagnosed it as a result of lifelong stress and blood pressure that was too high for a middle-aged man to manage at that particular time in his life.
With tears streaming from her eyes, my mother ran to me as soon as I opened the door and said, “Ward 10B.” She became very emotional without even thinking twice.
“Is his dad getting better?” I continued to ask, tears welling up in my eyes, but at that moment, nobody could offer us comfort; only my dad, who was staring at both my mom and me, was unable to speak a word, and when I turned to look at him, I saw that his condition had gotten worse already, his body gradually becoming wet.
“Mom,” I said to my mom as I was leaving her to cry and walked her to the wheelchair, where I helped my dad sit because his body was at ease and he had no idea what he was doing. With tears in my eyes, I carried my dad to the bathroom and cleaned him up with a great deal of sympathy because my mom was unable to enter the room at all because she was witnessing her husband’s terrible suffering and had no means of sealing it off except poverty.
Since my dad’s sudden illness, I have had to take care of the family’s food since I was a young child. My mom was a stay-at-home mom because my dad told her to, but since then, I have carried a heavy burden.
My mom, wearing a frown, said, “We do not have enough money to pay for your dad’s important medical bills,” as my dad and I emerged from the bathroom. I was already feeling extremely stressed out from my dad’s heavy body and my work.
“Mom, I am not in a relationship with a CEO or anything like that, and I am having a lot of financial difficulties supporting the family. I said angrily as my mother drew nearer, “I am so worried about you right now. You could just get something done to support with all the whole bills.”
She slapped me on the face and said, “Do not talk to me like that,” which made me look down in a fit of raging rage.”Even though you bring in food and pay some of the bills here, that does not give you the right to speak without respect for me, you bitch. Your dad wanted me to always work, so that is why I am not working now.” Her anger was evident from the way she looked at me as she yelled at me.
I walked out of my dad’s ward and onto the bench in front of the ward, leaving them both furious. “I am just giving you a chance because you her my mom and dad will not be Happy at all so I leave you to him to cater for and care for also,” I said.
“Fuck” I said, tossing my bag against the wall as I sat down next to it and picking it up right away. I bowed my head like I would at a prayer service and sobbed bitterly about what was wrong with my dad, especially his health since I knew my mom was always against me and treated me like their foster child. I had a lot of thoughts about that and always felt helpless because she always claimed to have a higher power than me and I could not do anything about it.
The doctor was wearing a long white jacket and a suit, which gave him a great appearance. However, he was not the one I always saw coming to visit my dad informally. “Hello Miss Amelia,” I stood up as soon as my name was mentioned.
” How may I help you?” I asked politely with a smile to him since I couldn’t lay my mom’s anger all just asked a calm question to me.
” Am the newly assigned Doctor to Mr. William and from the ” I interrupted him immediately with my own words making him shut up his mouth.
“Am Am Amelia is an only child ” I replied giving a slight nod as a sign of respect to him since he was older than me from just his face looking alone.
The middle-aged man gave his hand out for a handshake which I responded immediately.
” Can you then lead the way to your dad’s ward?” The middle-aged man asked with a great smile and respect as we both walked down to my dad’s Ward to see my mom in crying mode.
” Ma’am stop crying so you won’t fall sick and make your husband matter worse ” That was the doctor’s first statement as we both walked in to meet my dad. Down in me, I was giving more pity for my mom and her always crying habit but since we both had an issue I couldn’t just go telling her to stop crying due to her negative character and words to almost everyone not even excluding me her daughter her words are harsh same with her character towards me and everyone expect her husband and lover. This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.
” Doctor, please how can we help my dad?” I asked being so in need of a quick answer since all that gave me a life and space to survive was my dad and I could trade anything to make him get better by all means.
” Onlsurgery could help him get better and it is based on a fifty-fifty ” I interrupted.
” We know it is a surgery just how much would it cost for the surgery to take place?” I asked with a frown this time cause I knew that I had to get broke again I had my dad’s illness.
” 50, 000$,” he said.
” What the fuck?” My mom yelled from behind making myself and the doctor look at her.
“That’s on the high side where do you seek us to get such an amount for a surgery that nobody is sure the patient to survive” my mom said angrily and with much rudeness.
” Thanks, doctor,” I said holding the doctor in his hands and taking him out immediately my phone made a buzz in my pocket and I picked it up.
“Mr. Smith,” I uttered while displaying confusion.
